ON PROPHET MUHAMMAD
By: Kassim Ahmad
29th July, 2016

I am writing this article to clarify my position once and for all on Prophet Muhammad. My detractors accuse me of belittling him. I never did. In fact, I was like them before, repeating parrot-like, their mantra on him (“May God bless him and may peace be on him”) which I inherited from my ancestors. However, I felt uneasy, though amazed and perplexed, at Muhammad’superelevated position.
Truth to tell, I began to study the Quran from the age of seventeen. Every year I would repeat it, comparing one translation with another till I was 54 in 1986. By that time I have studied it for 36 years!
In the meanwhile, I studied Arabic as a subsidiary subject at the University, and continued to study it later. By then I had collected most of the Malay and English translations. I now have in my library 13 translations, including what  consider to be the best English translation by Dr. Rashad Khalifa.
Yesterday was a hectic yet productive day for me. In the morning I visited the Grand Old Man of Malaysia (GOMM) at his office in Putrajaya. Sadly, I found him not to be his old confident self any more. Last year, in the evening, as I walked beside him to go home, he said that he was like my older brother. In 2014 when I first appeared as an accused at the Syari’ah Court in Putrajaya, he attended the court, to the obvious surprise of everyone, including the judge.
To continue my story, I walked away a little disappointed. Not only age has taken toll on him, but Malaysia’s conservative Shafi’e religious school of thought has distanced himself from the young exuberant forward-looking Malaysians. Although I am nearing 83 and not physically young, I am as young in spirit as ever. God be thanked!
I raced to Setia Alam in Shah Alam in order to be in time for my last appointment at 5.00 p.m.  Luckily, the persons I was to meet were also late. A few minute later they turned up. We had a productive conversation for almost three hours. My new acquaintance, Abdul Karim Abdullah, is a lecturer in one of our institutes of advanced learning. To my great joy, we shared the same thoughts on all topics.
Muhammad is the last prophet of God, ending a series of prophets beginning with Prophet  Adam, through prophets Abraham, Moses and Jesus, teaching  the same religion of monotheism to their national communities. The only difference is that Prophet Muhammad was sent to the whole world and delivered the divinely-protected Quran . Hence he is “a mercy to the world.”
Muhammad was an Arab.  He had the qualities to be the receptacle of a new revelation in Arabic, the language that God chose to reveal the Quran in.
This is my position vis-à-vis Prophet Muhammad. My rejection of the second syahadah is based on the Quran where it is rejected in Surah 63,verse 1.
You see I love God The Truth, and I obey Him. What wrong did I do for the human religious authorities to accuse of belittling Islam?

NO HAND-SHAKING. IT IS FORBIDDEN

                                                                 NO HANDSHAKING! IT IS FORBIDDEN!
                                                                                 By: Kassim Ahmad

Some women and student-girls who visited me after my arrest by Jawi to find out my position on the hadith (recall a journalist who asked the deputy police inspector-general when he visited Kota Bharu, Kelantan, when he would arrest me -- imagine a citizen of Malaysia -- "head of the Malaysian anti-hadith movement" to be arrested!), refused to shake hands with me. Their reason: it is religiously forbidden. What is the proof? I am not sure. In the Quran there is the idiom, 'to touch your women', meaning to 'make love'. So this is the source! How misunderstanding a word can cause confusion!
What exasperates me is that some religious scholars who appear on "Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam" make the mistake. Like the call to prayer, repeating the so-called second syahadah ("I testimy that Muhammad is the messenger of God") that is practised throughout the Muslim world! It would be tedious to repeat these mistakes if the face of the contrary taught by God in His last scripture to mankind, the Noble Quran. Likewise the wearing of the Muslim woman's tudung or full headscarft, which is traceable to the corrupted teachings of the Bible. Bless be God Who has sent us the protected Quran to confirm and supersede previous scriptures!
Now hand-shaking is a sign of friendship, "glad-to-know-you" type of thing. It is common decantsy. It is to be welcome. How some of us have made it hedious!

MUSLIM WOMEN HEADSCARFT

MUSLIM WOMENS' HEADSCRAFT. IS IT NECESSARY?
                                                                    By: Kassim Ahmad
                                                                        13 July, 2017

Let me quote the Quran on the Muslim dress code. "Tell the believing men that they shall subdue their eyes and to maintain their chastity. This is purer for them. God is fully cognizant of what they do. Tell the believing women to subdue their eyes and maintain their chastity. They shall not reveal any parts of their bodies, except that which is necessary. They shall cover their chests, and shall not relax this code in the presence of other than their husbands, their fathers ... (See Quran, 24: 30-31)
Thus the tudung or full-fledged headscarf is not ordained by God. The corrupt religious scholars insists on Muslim women to cover their 'aurat. 'Aurat is an Arabic word meaning nakedness. Thus a woman's hair is not her 'aurat or nakedness. I would put to men's chauvinism to conceal the beauty of their women. God knows better and ordains appropriately to conceal their beauty.
Seventy years ago women did not wear the tudung. My mother never did. Her contemporaries never did. They wore selendang, a partial headcover. Were they not schooled? Not likely. Thus the complete headcover is a new teaching after the theocratic revolution in Iran in 1979. I am sure the Iranian women themselves will revolt against this unhealthy attire that allows no air to run over her hair. Moreover when taking ablution to pray they have to wipe their heads of dust.
Some people regard this as fashion. However not all Muslim women agree with this. A fashion that has negative results to her head is not to be tolerated. However, we can trace this habit to a corrupted source -- New Testament, Corinthian 1, 11: 2-16.
Do our tudung-clad women know this? Do our religious scholars who insist on the tudung know this? If they do do not, and they do not, they better learn!

SATU ATAU DUA SYAHADAH?

                                                            SYAHADAH ADA SATU ATAU DUA?
                                                                         Oleh: Kassim Ahmad
                                                                                12 Julai, 2017

Bilangan rasul mestilah beribu-ribu.
Seorang sahabat saya menyatak, jika demikian, kita menentang arus perdana.
Baghdad ibu kota dunia. Eropah zaman pertengahan datang belajar di Baghdad selama 300 tahun. Baca buku Robert Brifualt, The Making of Humanity (1919) dan G. Sarton, Introduction to A History of Science (1931)

THE MUSLIM PRAYER

THE MUSLIM PRAYER COMPARED TO THE LORD'S PRAYER
                                                               By: Kassim Ahmad
                                                                     1 June, 2017

Let me quote the Lord's prayer. "Our Father in Heaven, hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy  will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we  forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thy is the kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever. A'men" (The New Testament, Matthew, 9-13).
The Muslim prayer is contained in the first Surah called the Fatehah or The Key. It goes like this: "In the name of God, the Beneficieant and the Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgement. Only You do we worship and from only You do we ask for help. Lead us in the straight path, the path of those whom You bless, nor of those who have deserved wrath, nor of the trespassers."
To explain the crass materialism of the Lord's prayer as compared to the Muslim prayer and its beautiful avoidance of this crass materialism and yet contains man's physical needs we have to put it in framework of Jesus's time. Jesus lived 6,000 years ago. He was a Jew as was Moses. His mother was Maryam and father was unknown , but believed to be a carpenter. Jesus was a special messenger of God. God endowed him with many miracles, curing leprosy and even creating life! Yet the Lord's Prayer is inferior to the Muslim Prayer. While the Muslim prayer majestically avoids this crass materialism, yet it provides for man's physical needs. The so-called hadiths are fabrications hung on the head of Prophet Muhammad without his permission. Prophet Muhammad was warned by God not to initiate any other teaching except the Quran. (See Surah Al-Haaqqah (69), verses 38-48)
The early Muslims, within 30 years, liberated the two empires of then world, the Sassanian and the and most of the Byzantine, to be the number one power for eight centuries. Medieval Europe sat at the feet of Baghdad for three centuries before its Renaissance.
Today where stands the Muslim world? Number seven or eight below the USA, Britain, France, Russia, China, India and even South Korea. Their Islam, the way of life, decreed by God for them has become nothing more than mere rituals. Even then their azan or their call to prayer blithely opposed God's standing order to worship him alone.
Not that God is All-Great and All-Powerful and does not need their worship. It is man who needs to worship God. This is happening throughout the Muslim world! Where are their scholers?
